This report is part of a database that will be used to signify the importance of heritage in the Kawartha regions. The township of Cavan-Millbrook-North Monaghan was surveyed and documented concerning its cultural and natural heritage.

Abstract:

The Tallgrass Prairie Restoration Site is run by the Kenny family in Bailieboro, Ontario, located approximately twenty minutes outside of Peterborough. The site began in 1995, with the goal of restoring Tallgrass prairie to the area, and now is a twenty-acre portion of the Kenny family farm. A feasibility study was conducted to determine the feasibility of school field trips to the Restoration site. Ideas were also presented to include in the creation of a curriculum kit which could be used in conjunction with field trips to this site.

Climate study for grape growing in the Central Ontario Region

The purpose of this report is to document long term climate data from six weather stations in Central Ontario Region. This information was used to determine the number of frost free days, and the number of growing degree days. Calculating the number of days between the last frost and the first growing will assist in determining which grape varieties are suitable for which microclimate conditions.

Kawartha Choice is currently in need of funding. This paper examines funding opportunities available to Kawartha Choice. The authors contacted nine community groups from Ontario who are promoting local food security in their region to determine structure of their organizations, their mandates, their programs and how they fund their programs: Kawartha Farm Fresh, Caledon Countryside, Local Flavours, Durham Farm Fresh, Taste the County, Toronto Food Share, Waterloo FoodLink, York Region Farm Fresh Association. Section three of this report is an analysis of the various ways that KC can fund their organization.

The purpose of this paper was to perform a SWOT analysis of the Peterborough Tai Chi Association, analyzing their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The authors recommended short-term and long-term strategies for dealing with current problems including increasing rental costs and decreasing membership.
