1916 Letter 15

[1916]

Dear Mother,

I am all alone this morning. Miss Grand is out for the day. Myra is lunching out and heaven knows where the others are.

To be all alone in a house, except of course for the servants, is rather an occasion. One gets so tired of being with people every minute, as in a camp.

I’ve written to Ruth and the boys and Mrs. Sutherland to tell her I’ll go down next Thursday and have really had a busy morning.

Ruth writes occasionally but never mentions Gib these days. Is that still progressing?

I expect Don up this week but haven’t heard definitely yet.

There is no use in my going to Shornecliffe to see him. I’d rather put the money into some thing for him to see in London.

The theatres are rather poor just now. [Reaves] are the popular forms of amusement and many big people are doing small parts. Acts I should say, at the Coliseum, etc.

The Professor’s Love Story by Barrie is quite good, I believe, and "The Bing Boys".

I’m trying to get Holly to come up to-morrow.

Well Mother its just lunch time and I must go. With heaps of love I am –

Always yours

Helen.

13 Cheyne Place.

Nov. 2nd.
