Dear Mother –

Eric left Crowborough on Monday. So by this time he will be settled again. I’m glad he’s over at last. When he was here lst week I found out lots of things about his plans and the boy certainly has acted very wisely. He could have had a commission in the Engineers but it meant 6 mos. or a year in England training. What he wants is this job in the Intelligence Dept. and why he wants to go to France to get it is that as soon as he is gazetted he’ll go right to his new job – no coming back to England etc. If he gets it it means staff pay $3 a day more so he’s pretty long headed.

Of course this is all in the air yet and there is many a slip so there is no use in talking until he gets it. But he seems quite confident.

Don was to have had his leave but something happened again. However he’s sure to get it soon and the weather will

time does fly. And a Hun too – we’re accumulating quite a bunch of undesirable relations aren’t we?

The weather has been very cold – skating, snow and cold winds. Thank heaven we are comfortably housed etc.

There isn’t much news – a box of chocolates came to-day and some shortbread and a jar of jelly a week or so ago – all much appreciated and thanks very much. The jacket hasn’t come yet but will likely come in a few days. I never heard anything more about the one you sent for my birthday, so I guess it’s gone.

I’ll write again soon. With ever so much love –

Yours always –

Helen
